The Republic of Consciousness Prize for Small Presses, in partnership with UEA Publishing Project,

is looking for a part-time marketing and administration assistant.

The Republic of Consciousness is an organisation which supports, promotes and celebrates small presses in the UK and Ireland. We run a prize for literary fiction which has awarded £35,000 to small publishers and their authors since 2017. We also run events, a book club and a sporadic podcast.  

Thanks to a grant from the Arts Council, and support from our sponsors at the University of East Anglia, we are able to hire a part-time marketing and administrative assistant to help assist with the running and promotion of this year’s prize, which will be awarded in March 2020.

 

The role: the chosen applicant will assist in the marketing and delivery of the 2020 prize through:

·       Helping write and subsequently deliver a marketing strategy which will highlight the work of the prize and the listed novels and publishers.

·       Using social media to engage with readers and spread the profile of the prize

·       Contacting bookshops to promote the longlist and shortlist

·       Helping arrange events

 

Crucial requirements:

·       The applicant must currently be a student, either BA or MA, within the school of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing, at UEA.

·       A demonstrable interest in contemporary literature and publishing

·       Enthusiasm for the mission of the Republic of Consciousness to support, promote and celebrate small presses in the UK & Ireland

 

Location: Remote working required. Some travel to London and the University of East Anglia (expenses will be paid for travel to London).

Hours: Up to a maximum of 12 full days, or 24 half-days, between December 2019 and June 2020. Working schedule to be agreed on appointment. Flexible working hours available.

Salary: £10.50/hour.

Start date: Candidate must be free for a paid half-day of training in Norwich on either 26th or 29th November. Working days after that will be flexible.
